Big News… An Ending and a Beginning!

You may have noticed it’s been very quiet here on Packed Suitcase recently. I’m happy to report that’s about to change, because I’ve got some BIG NEWS and wanted you all to hear it straight from me.

Today I’m packing up my desk at National Geographic and heading out in to the wild world of freelance at my new business, Packed Suitcase Media, LLC!

I am beyond excited to take this step. I have loved my time working at National Geographic, which really is as cool as you might imagine, but you know me—I’ve always got a lot of things going on. So it’s time to turn things up a notch.

For the past 15+ years, I’ve had my full time career in TV, but equally important to me has been my “side hustle” here on Packed Suitcase. Helping others to explore their own backyards through road trips and weekend getaways is something that I truly love doing.

But, on top of all that, I also have a “side side hustle”…

To market my blog, I’ve had to fine-tune my own social media strategy. Over the years, my interest has turned more professional, and a few years ago I began working with several businesses to help them manage their social media accounts.

Along the way, I discovered that I really have a knack for figuring out what’s special about a brand and highlighting it for the world to see on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. And my clients seem to like it, too. My side-side hustle has just grown more and more to the point where I now have clients as far away as Australia!

And so earlier this year, I made the decision to turn all of my “hustles” into a full-fledged business.

Here’s what I’ll be doing:

  • Freelance Social Media Management— I’m especially targeting travel, food or artisan product businesses
  • Freelance Producingboth long and short form content
  • Writingincludingmore itineraries, reviews, road trips and trip ideas!

My ultimate goal is to spend my days working on projects I love… and I could use your help!

If you know of any businesses that could use someone like me to elevate their social media, please email me or refer them to my website. Referrals are truly everything.

And, if there’s a place you’re eager for me to visit and write about, email me or post a comment below. (Heads up: Gettysburg content is coming soon!)

Finally, follow along with me as I embark on this crazy journey on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and LinkedIn.

Here’s to all that lies ahead!

That’s so awesome! I’d love to see more roadtrips beyond just the mid-atlantic, such as upstate new york, new england, as well as the south like the Carolinas and Georgia, maybe even Florida, and maybe even as far midwest as Michigan’s upper peninsula! (That’s on the top of my list for next summer’s road trip as of now) but regardless of what you do, I’ll be looking forward to it!

Hey Andrew! Thank you so much for your kind words 🙂 I’d definitely like to start expanding my road trip range… now maybe I will be able to! All of your suggestions are really good. I’d love some NC, NY and New England trips in particular. Plus, anything around the National Parks, too. I’ll be following along with your adventures, too– love it.

Congratulations on going full-time freelance! I’d love to read about Pittsburgh, PA if you happen to make a trip there.

Thanks, Elizabeth! I would LOVE to visit Pittsburgh, and it’s definitely on my list. I’ll try to make it happen sooner rather than later 🙂
