2012 Packed Suitcase Traveler Gift Guide

I’ve noticed a dramatic transformation all around my hometown of Washington, DC. Trees and buildings are decorated with twinkly lights, cheery music is playing out of every speaker and everyone is walking around with a little more bounce in their step. It can only mean one thing… yes, the holidays are upon us once again!

Last year, I had a blast putting together my 2011 Packed Suitcase Traveler Gift Guide. This time, I started early and have been writing down the best of the best gift ideas for months. I’ve narrowed it down to my top 10 gift ideas for any traveler on your list.

And now, welcome to the…

1.) For the Foodie: TUSCANY WINE TOTE
This stylish and graphic tote is a fun accessory for the foodie traveler. And you may even find some new bucket list ideas from the Tuscan cities listed on the back!

2.) For the backpacker: LONDON CRUMPLED CITY MAP
This crinkle map is the essential accessory for any hectic backpacker. It’s durable, stylish and waterproof… perfect for those rainy London days. (Other available cities include: New York City, San Francisco, Chicago, Paris, Amsterdam, Berlin, Barcelona and Tokyo)

3.) For the Fashionista: Hunter “Original Tour” Boots
The brand new, lightweight version of Hunter’s iconic rain wellies is able to be rolled up and easily packed, making it the gift for the stylish traveler.

(Hunter, $135)

4.) For the Hipster: Ray Ban Folding Wayfarers
I am absolutely obsessed with these sunglasses. In addition to being the same classic Wayfarer design that looks great on everyone, these sunglasses are one heck of a conversation piece. Sunglasses that fold up? Brilliant!

5.) For the Home Decorator: “World” Pillow
I stopped in my tracks when I spotted these graphic map pillows by Maryland-based artisan Bhaval Shah Bell. I chose the “World” design for my home, but there are colorful pillows and prints featuring states and countries from all over the world.

(Cartoloji, $60)

6.) For the iPhone-Addict: Trent iRock iPhone 4/4S Battery Case
For some, tweeting, texting and Instagram-ming are all essential to the traveling lifestyle. Help keep your iPhone going for hours on the road with this handy case, which provides your iPhone up to 7 hours additional talking time and up to 11 hours of video playback on-the-go.

(New Trent, $41.95)

7.) For the frequent flier: Stackable Tiffin Tins
Unless you’re in first class, most airline food nowadays is either awful or non-existant. Bypass the system and bring your own food aboard, with this hammered metal 2-compartment Indian Tiffin Tin.

(World Market, $9.99)

8.) For the space-conscious packer: The Hoboroll
Part luggage organizer, part space-saver, the multi-compartment Hoboroll is a great idea for anyone looking to maximize their suitcase real estate.  Just shove your stuff into the different compartments, tighten the straps and put in your suitcase or backpack then you’re good to go!

(GobiGear, $28)

9.) For the Guidebook Addict: Moleskin City Guide
Moleskin’s taken their traditional notebook concept and made it even more fun with their City Guides. Featuring nearly 50 cities world-wide, they provide the framework for you to create your own personalized guidebook, with ample space for addresses and reviews of favorite spots, maps and lots more.

(Moleskin, $17.95)

10.) For the serious shopper: A Digital Luggage Scale
That 50 lb. weight limit on luggage can be strain on both your muscles and your bank account. Never get surprised again with this digital scale that lets you weigh your luggage before you head to the airport.

(Amazon, $19.95)

Is it fair to say that I expect the red boots to only be worn with a blue Paddington Bear coat?

Okay, those foldable sunglasses are awesome! I’ve broken three pairs recently as they got crushed in my overstuffed carry on bag.
